Adult Faith Development - Path to Leadership Providing leadership for a complex organization
such as First Unitarian Church requires patience, tact, flexibility, emotional
maturity, perseverance, vision, and solid spiritual grounding. Certain
leadership positions may also require abilities such as financial accounting
skills, knowledge of Unitarian Universalist history, training in pastoral
care, or familiarity with our church By-laws. Fortunately, members and
friends of First Unitarian Church can upgrade their leadership abilities
by taking part in a variety of leadership training opportunities, some
of which we create ourselves, and some of which are available through
other organizations. Strengthening Our Caring Connection: Pastoral Care
Team Training The goal of this one-day training is to help new and current members of the Pastoral Care Team own their passion and commitment to helping others and actualizing this energy into a Pastoral Care ministry. We will explore listening and communication skills, visiting and companioning, issues related to loss and bereavement, the religious component of UU Pastoral Care, responding to common life events, how to refer individuals to professionals, and the importance of confidentiality and boundaries. We’ll join in listening circles to share personal experiences as pastoral care givers, consider how our team (and other teams) work together and brainstorm new ideas for fostering a stronger caring connection. This training is open to Pastoral Care teams from all churches in the Western PA Unitarian Universalist cluster). Beverages and snacks provided. Brown bag lunch. Led by the Rev. Robin Landerman Zucker.
