This program showcases pieces inspired by a deep yearning to convey what words never can. Expressing pure joy, lament, exuberance and rage is limited with speech but can be magnified through music. This performance features “Sospiri” by Edward Elgar, “Suite for Strings” by Leoš Janáček, “Funebre” by Pittsburgh-based Iranian-born composer Reza Vali with Anne Moskal as soloist, “Adagietto” from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, and “Ancient Airs and Dances Suite 3” by Respighi.
The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh, a grassroots orchestra under the direction of Edward Leonard, offers exceptional performances of infrequently
heard classical works. Their diverse repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the 21st century, from well-known masterpieces to brand new compositions.
The orchestra features local musicians and performs small-scale orchestral works in intimate settings, striving to enlighten audiences through
shared engagement with the arts. (www.copgh.org)
