Please join us for a meditation evening on Sunday, June 3rd, 2018, 6:30-8pm: Theme – “Listening with the Ear of the Heart”
My wife, Tracy, brought it to my attention that May 27th is Memorial day weekend. I am moving the Mindfulness Meditation retreat to the following Sunday in the interest of giving everyone the opportunity to attend. I have changed our last meeting before summer to Sunday, June 3rd.
Heads-up! I will be taking the summer off. I would like to continue these evenings in September. Several folks have expressed a desire to meet more than once per month. I will schedule an evening in early September. We can discuss a format for the fall after our meditation. Please spread the work to others within and outside the church community over the summer. These evenings are about what we all bring to the table.
I look forward to seeing you here at the meditation evening – let me know if you think you might attend (ok to just show up, however).
"Genuine listening requires that you willingly bear witness to what someone else needs to say while simultaneously sparing them of your own solution, defense, dismissal, alternative reality, rebuttal, counterpoint, comparable story or more extreme example. This kind of listening is a very "active" part to play in a conversation. You have to believe for those moments that none of the things you might say could possibly be as valuable as hearing someone out. You may need to employ every ounce of your strength of character to actually pay attention and not butt-in with your own bit. That kind of attention paid to another is powerful medicine." - Gil Hedley
