At the end of July one of our members received an eleventh-hour plea from Rainbow Kitchen, a community service nonprofit in Homestead. The usual donor
of backpacks and school supplies for their their end-of-summer back-to-school project had begged off this year, and the director was reaching out to
local churches and civic organizations to fill the gap. With the deadline two weeks away and much of our membership out of town on vacation, Womanspirit
nevertheless took up the cause, which the Women's Alliance quickly joined. On August 17 we were able to deliver a dozen backpacks and about 70 pounds
of crayons, markers, notebooks, pens and other school supplies to Rainbow Kitchen. Thanks to everyone who rushed to serve!
