Bike lane plan would end parking on Morewood near the church

Pittsburgh Councilperson Erika Strassburger discussed proposed changes to Morewood Avenue to accommodate bicycle riders.

She said contractors will be working through the summer on major modifications to the intersection of Fifth and Morewood. As part of that intersection construction, a bike lane will be constructed on the west side of Morewood from Fifth Avenue to Castleman Street.

Now, the city has begun to plan a bike lane on the west side of Morewood from Castleman to Ellsworth. If approved, parking on Morewood would be eliminated, leaving the only street parking on Ellsworth remaining for the church.

The Board of Trustees is concerned about the impact on churchgoers who rely on parking on Morewood. City Reformed Presbyterian Church holds services at Winchester Thurston now, making all of the parking at the school and many spaces on Ellsworth unavailable to us on Sundays.

The board is developing a position to share with the city. Please share your feedback and suggestions with any board member.
