Pillowcase Brigade

You might think its laundry day in the Undercroft Gallery when you see about 80 artful pillowcases hanging from pegs on clotheslines. The pillowcases are this year’s work by First UU’s “Pillowcase Brigade” and will be hanging out all of June and July. It’s worthwhile to look at the individual cases to see how various fabrics were combined to make each a distinctive, delightful creation.

Come celebrate this colorful exhibit on Sunday, June 14, during coffee hour.

The seamstresses made them as part of a national non-profit organization, Ryan’s Case for Smiles, which will give them to children with cancer or other very serious diseases. The pillowcases you see in the Undercroft Gallery will be donated to Children’s Hospital via this organization.

Newcomers are welcome to join the Pillowcase Brigade when they meet starting in the fall. Also, the group asks for donations of good fabric. It takes a yard for each. Smiles all around—Smiles when you make them, smiles when you see them, smiles when children and their families receive them.

Additionally, an early reminder to all friends and family who make art which can be hung on a wall. The annual Friends and Family Exhibition is coming again in early fall. Time to get your art ready! Dates will be announced later.
