Sunday Forum: Retired State Trooper to Examine the New Obama Presidential Center

Kevin Mosley

The upcoming hybrid presentation explores the cultural footprint, community mission, and historic Juneteenth opening of Chicago’s newest civic landmark.

The Sunday Forum will feature author, speaker, and retired law enforcement officer Kevin Mosley this Sunday morning, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. Mosley will present an in-depth look at the newly opened Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, detailing its architectural scope, civic mission, and historical significance.

Mosley brings a distinct lens to public scholarship, informed by two decades of service as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police. Following his retirement from law enforcement, he established a consulting and speaking career centering on Black history, systemic race relations, policing reform, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the country.

His presentation turns its focus to the campus created to commemorate the legacy of the nation’s 44th president. The Barack Obama Presidential Center held its official dedication ceremony on June 18, 2026, opening its doors to the public the following day on Juneteenth.

Beyond serving as a presidential museum and repository of history, the multi-building campus on Chicago’s South Side was planned as an active civic and community resource. Mosley will examine how the center integrates cultural reflection with neighborhood life, housing:

  • Global Leadership Hubs: Headquarters for the Obama Foundation, alongside youth-focused initiatives including the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance and the Girls Opportunity Alliance, established by former First Lady Michelle Obama.
  • Civic Infrastructure: A dedicated branch of the Chicago Public Library and a modern community athletic facility.
  • Public Green Space: Landscaped public parkland, walking trails, play areas, and community gardens designed for neighborhood recreation.

The Sunday Forum convenes weekly to provide a platform for dialogue on public affairs, human rights, culture, and community ethics. Attendees are invited to participate either in person at the church or virtually via Zoom.
