First Church Humanist Group

We’ll discuss a book on humanism and its history entitled “Humanly Possible”, by British Humanist Sarah Bakewell. Barack Obama chose it as one of his favorites of 2023. It introduces us to many interesting, often colorful, individuals whose efforts to free themselves of age-old dogmas led to organized movements stressing the role of humans in determining their own future. Among the questions it raises are “what is happiness?”, and “how can humans achieve it?”

.Join us for a robust discussion of these and other issues raised in this fascinating book. All are invited to come and participate, with those who responded to our earlier announcements by reading some of the book getting first dibs on telling us their thouoghts. Schweitzer Room or on Zoom. It’ll be more fun in person, but if you can’t make it there, write to HumanistGroup@first-unitarian-pgh.org for the link.
