PHRESH – Pittsburgh Hill/Homewood Research on Neighborhood Change and Health: Nutrition Security and The Importance of Access to Healthy Foods

Subject: What is nutrition security, and how is it currently examined? What factors are important to achieve nutrition security? Dr. Fulay will discuss how PHRESH examines access to healthy food and key findings from the PHRESH Research project of two Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Finally, she will discuss the potential importance of nutrition security for public health outcomes such as diet, chronic disease risk, and cognitive health.

The Speaker: Aarohee Fulay is broadly interested in investigating how food insecurity, food access, and the food environment (nutrition policies and programs, etc.) impact dietary quality, chronic disease risk, and overall well-being in vulnerable populations. She is particularly interested in studying the association of food insecurity with dietary quality and chronic disease risk in children, adolescents, and college students.
