The Diabetes Prevention Program and Its Outcome Today

The Speaker: Elsa S. Strotmeyer, PhD, MPH, is Professor and Executive Vice Chair in the Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the Co-Director of the Center for Aging and Population Health. Dr Strotmeyer is also Leader, in the Research Education Component of the Claude D. Pepper Center and Director of the NIH/NIA T32 Epidemiology of Aging Training Program.

Presentation: The Diabetes Prevention Program is a 30-year ongoing study, the results of which have changed the way physicians treat patients with diabetes and pre-diabetes. By 2060, the number of adults diagnosed with diabetes is expected to nearly triple. Dr. Strotmeyer will discuss factors that influence the prevention or delay of a diabetes diagnosis. She will also identify complications that can result from this disease as people age.
