Thank you, Stuart, Eleanor, Brian, Janet, Rose, Kyle, Arlene, Claus, Pat, Bob, Chris, Susan, Maria, David, Margaret, Basyl, Neal, and Cinda, for sending me your thoughts on the possibility of the City reconfiguring Morewood to include a new bike lane and the elimination of parking on Morewood. Several were supportive of the bike plans to create a safer route to church. Most focused on the difficulties of our seniors, temporarily disabled congregants, or families with small children parking blocks away. Some talked about the need for parking during concerts and other weekend events, Women’s Spirit meetings on Thursdays, and voting.
I shared the post you have seen in the newsletter/website with Councilperson Strassburger to be transparent in our congregational conversations about parking. She wrote a thoughtful response to me reiterating that the City has not, at this time, planned for eliminating parking on Morewood. The purpose of the meeting I attended on April 13 was to get stakeholders along Morewood to begin a conversation about the desire to improve safety for cyclists on Morewood from Millvale to CMU. A new bike lane and the elimination of parking on Morewood to accommodate the bike lane were possibilities that were discussed. Keep your concerns and suggestions coming. (Jim’s email can be found in the Breeze directory.) I share all your emails with the board of trustees. When we hear from Councilperson Strassburger and DOMI (Department of Mobility and Infrastructure) about the next step, I will let you know.
See you at the Annual Meeting after church on Sunday, May 17, 2026, as we review the year and vote on new board and nominating committee members, as well as a new Behavioral Covenant. Thank you for being an amazing group of people.
Jim, Board of Trustees President
