Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACAD) (https://adultchildren.org/welcome-path/) is a 12-Step program focused on emotional sobriety. Members are profoundly affected by dysfunction in their families of origin, regardless of whether alcohol was present in the home.

As a result of these experiences, individuals often develop a set of “laundry list” traits to help them survive. While these traits may have been adaptive in childhood, they can substantially disrupt adult life.

We recover by working our program, which involves attending ACA meetings and working the Twelve Steps. Because the Steps are not meant to be worked in isolation, we work through them with more experienced members, a twelve-step group, or fellow travelers in ACA.
