Our April STP recipient is the  Afro American Music Institute (AAMI) in Homewood. Founded by the late Dr. James Johnson and his wife Pamela, AAMI provides instrumental training in African American musical traditions such as Jazz, Blues, Gospel. Through its curriculum, thousands of students of all ages have developed their talents while gaining a deeper appreciation of music from across the African Diaspora. Their contributions—and the broader legacy of African American music—continue to enrich our congregation. Supporting an organization like AAMI—one that enriches the lives of young people of color while affirming and celebrating their cultural heritage—strongly aligns with our Unitarian Universalist principles.

First UU Humanist Group

4/7/26 @ 7:30 pm  Experiential travel is a form of tourism, focused on actively engaging with a destination’s people, culture, and environment. The best itineraries are designed for small groups of fernweh*-addicted wanderlust-afflicted lifelong learners who choose education over relaxation. Kim will share images, information, and insights from her journeys to Argentina, Antarctica, Bali, Tanzania, and the four Stans of Central Asia. A photographic travelogue provides context for her comments and captures the essence of experiential travel and responsible tourism. In the Schweitzer room and on Zoom. For the Zoom link, send an email to HumanistGroup@first-unitarian-pgh.org
